Did you ever notice that some people can write interesting articles and some people can write about the same subject and make it boring or even unreadable? Before you write the article you have to determine the purpose of the article. If you are vague about why you are writing, your article will be vague and uninteresting. For example, you could be writing an article about making a TV antenna from coat hangars. The purpose would be to explain in easy steps how to do that. If your article is about chelation therapy you must decide if the purpose is to introduce the subject to medical professionals or to explain it in simple terms so that everybody can understand it. (Chelation therapy is a medical procedure for ridding the body of heavy metals and other toxins.)
A way to make an article interesting is to state examples. See paragraph above for use of examples. People read those examples and think, “I get that!” Examples make your writing usable for the reader.
Make the article real for your readers. If you are writing an article to be read by math or computer science professors you could say “qualitative reasoning” and they would probably know what you were talking about. But if you are writing for youth science class you better stick to phrases like “computer programs for robots.” Keep your language within the realm of the particular audience who will be reading it. (Note that this paragraph contains an example without saying, “for example.” Repeating that phrase can get boring.)
Keep your sentences and paragraphs to a reasonable length. It is just easier to read shorter, rather than longer, sentences and paragraphs. After all, you want your articles to be read and most readers will chose the shorter sentence, paragraph, article, especially if they are in a hurry at the time they find your article.
